This was the second time I assessed the Johns. They were so happy with their results. Both lost a good amount of weight in 6 weeks. They were very excited to continue with their plan.
I have been helping people lose weight for more than 12 years and I know about human behavior...
So I warned the Johns about one thing that many people do.
Let me tell you that you are motivated at this moment and I am very happy for you. The results and the fact that this is new to you gives you the motivation to continue. But let me tell you something. You are changing your life and those changes that you are making are going to become boring and hard when you are stressed. Then you are not going to be motivated and the chances for you to relapse are going to be high. I know this because this happens to many people and I am telling you this to try to avoid it. When your motivation is over you need to think why you signed up and you must continue to be disciplined with your new habits.
They said that they are happy with the weight loss results and they will continue improving….
I have been assessing Mrs Johns 4 times in this past year and Mr Johns has not shown up with her. Mrs Johns told me that I was right about the prediction I mentioned in their second assessment. Mr Johns has gained weight back, works a lot, doesn’t eat healthy and it seems like everytime his wife invites him to come back to exercise he gets angry.
Mr Johns relapsed and it has become difficult for Mrs Johns and I to motivate him to come back to his weight loss program…
Motivation is a feeling. You need more to transform your body. Let’s say I tell you that I can help you make one million dollars a year, lose 40 pounds and never become depressed again. As a matter of fact, I want you to close your eyes and think how your life will change if you make a million dollars a year. Please give yourself a couple of minutes before you continue reading. Now tell me how you feel?
Now you are going to do the same with your body. I want you to think about how your life is when you are healthy, strong, fit, no pains and have a toned body? Where do you see yourself? What are you doing? Give yourself some minutes before you continue reading. How do you feel?
Let’s say you are depressed and you don’t see the way out. I want you to think about the things that make you happy or made you happy? I want you to think if you have the choice to start over, what would you change to change your emotional state? Is it traveling? A loved one? Is it your job? A specific dream?
See, it is easy to get motivated…
It is easy to feel like you want to change, but when it is time to act, that feeling goes away. This is why motivation never is going to be enough for you to change. If you really want to change, you need to invoke discipline.
You can only make a million dollars a year if you discipline yourself enough to handle stress, to save money to invest, to learn more about your career and to take on difficult jobs.
You can only lose 40 pounds and be fit if you discipline yourself to eat healthy, to exercise regularly, to wake up early to open space for your meditation, to say no to negative friends and to stop drinking.
You can only be happy when you discipline yourself to control your emotions, to fight for your dreams, to forgive yourself and others.
You must have the discipline to continue with your new habits if you want the rewards…
If your desire to change and enjoy a better life is bigger, then you need discipline yourself because the fire of motivation will turn off.
However, there is nothing wrong if you don’t want to change. If you are okay making the money you are making, overweight and tired, and not being genuinely happy, you don’t have to discipline yourself. You can continue trying to change when you get motivated but know that you always will come back to where you started.
