7 Reasons Why You Should Write Down Your Goals

Updated: Nov 15, 2023

Years ago I did not feel stable, nor prosper. My goals were vague and meaningless. My goals were to make my car one of the fastest cars by altering the engine, pay my monthly bills, save money to go to a party and have free time to play video games.

Sure, I achieved my goals with no meaning, no purpose, and no contribution to my life and the lives of others. Sometimes I interview people who say they want to lose weight and their goals are very similar to mine, they want to lose weight, whenever, whatever and they don't know why they want to lose weight.

Later I learned that setting goals would help me not only to be prosperous, but to improve my life and the lives of others. I learned that goals would help me to have a clear destiny, to prioritize my activities, to manage my time wisely, to motivate myself, to have faster results, to control my future, and to live an effective life.

So I started setting goals. Now I have not only bought 4 buildings, but have already opened multiple Custom Body Fitness locations, have written two books, helped nonprofits, have enough money to feel safe in emergencies and I have helped many people change their lives for a better one.

And I'm not telling you this to impress you. I'm telling you to inspire you. Many other people have created more than me and those people inspire me to improve myself. But I owe my achievements to the goals I have created.

The same thing happens when you want to lose weight.

If you want to change your body, tone it up, lose 60 pounds, control a disease, run a marathon, look more attractive, have more energy, change your life, then it's important that you set goals.

This is why you should write down goals...

Have a clear destination. Have you gone to the supermarket with a list of 5 things and have you forgotten one of them? It has happened to me. Not only did you come home without one of the things you need but you also bought other things you don't need, you wasted time, you spent your money and you didn't really accomplish your mission. If you had written down the things you need before going to the supermarket, your mission would have been successful without wasting time or money.

So it is with your life. If you don't write your goals, you end up with things you didn't want, wasting time and money and not reaching your goal. That is why it is important that you write down your goals and that you know why you are going to achieve that goal. Possibly you forgot the tomatoes needed for sauce you were going to make for your meal, but you ended up buying bread, chocolates, and soft drinks that you don't need at home.

If you really want to lose weight, you have to set your goals clearly so you don't waste time or money and be successful. For example, I lost 50 pounds in these 7 months (exact date) because my goal is to be able to run a marathon, control my diabetes, and get into small size clothes. All of this is important because my children need me to be healthy, to enjoy my life outdoors, to feel good and to look good in my clothes. Plus I'm already tired of feeling tired and drained of energy and not being able to live my life to the fullest.

You see? All of this is crystal clear.

Prioritize your activities. Many people find themselves with a lot of time on their hands, but since they don't have goals, they prefer to drink, be on social media, chatting with friends about trivial things, playing video games, watching television and wasting their lives. When you set goals, you already know what you have to do every day to reach them.

For example, if you know you have to lose 50 pounds in 7 months, you are going to spend your time cooking, walking, exercising, learning about weight loss, planning your day, packing your lunch, and doing whatever it takes to achieve your goal.

Manage your time wisely. Just as I explained it to you with prioritizing your activities, you will realize that you only have time to achieve your goals and you will invest the time only in your goals,

Motivate you. The best way to motivate yourself is by seeing the pain you are in and seeing the pleasure of your future. When you set goals you can see your future. You can see yourself without those 50 pounds of fat, fit, energetic, diabetes free, running your marathon, playing with your kids, wearing the clothes you like, and enjoying your life. That is a good motivation.

Get faster results. Since you already have your goal clear, you already prioritize your activities and your time, and you are already motivated, the chances of you reaching your goal faster increase. Obviously, you know where you are going, you no longer waste time and your motivation gives you the energy to continue forward.

Control your future. There are things that you don’t have control over such as the weather, the economy, the decisions of others, emergencies and accidents. But there are many things in which you can control, your health, your weight, your economy, your life, attitude and many other things. If you set goals, you take control of your life. For example, with your goals you take control of your overweight and your health. That will always be your decision and there is nothing like doing everything in your power to take control of your life.

Live an effective life. Do you know what is the best thing about setting goals? Knowing that you are going to die. Sorry for telling you something very obvious. But knowing that you are going to die helps you live an effective and fulfilling life. Then with your goals you start to improve your life and the lives of others. I'm sure you don't want to live your whole life 50 pounds overweight, with no energy, with diabetes, wearing clothes you don't like, suffering from being overweight, and not achieving your marathon and other things you wanted so much. When you set your goals, you achieve them and then you set more goals and more until you grow as much as you could in your life,

knowing that you always gave your best.

Finally, when you write your goals,

write them specific, with a time limit, track them and write long and short term goals. Every day you will work on your goals and you will see how your life changes thanks to your goals.

As I mentioned to you at the beginning. You are going to achieve a lot and your goals and you will talk about your achievements so that you can inspire others to create goals and give their best as well.
