I had the honor to interview Dr. Benjamin Alter. He helps people claim their health back by eating the correct foods. He also has helped some of our members start their weight loss program with his cleansing programs.
I can talk more about him, but I think it is better if you listen to what he has to say. His interview is here. However, I am going to summarize the interview here in this article.
Dr Alter went to medical school to learn all the requirements to become a doctor, including learning pharmaceuticals. Beside learning all the conventional medical programs, he learned the naturopathic program which includes nutritional science, herbal medicine and homeopathy. In other words, things that support the body to heal naturally.

In this interview, Dr. Alter talks about the importance of breaking the paradigm of thinking that the doctors have all the answers to your questions. In reality it is each individual who is responsible for their health. The doctor's responsibility is to teach patience how to heal because healing comes from how we eat and live. As Dr, Alter claims, he can’t do anything about his patient healing unless the patient wants to be healed.
Dr Alter injured his right hand a couple of times leaving him with the opportunity to use his left hand. What he concluded, according to this interview, is that he could balance his brain, helping him to be more inspired and true to himself. Therefore, he will question information and make sure such information is legit.
He continues talking about psychoendoneuroimmunology- how thoughts can make us sick and also heal us. He discovered this not only by studying but by personal experience when he was sick and he noticed that it was not physical but his thoughts were making him sick. He explains that our physiology gets affected by our psychology. In other words, our thoughts dictate how our body functions.
Dr Alter mentioned that we let outside circumstances dictate our internal feeling when in reality our internal feeling is created from within not from things such as more money, losing weight or a promotion. He said that we can get lost in this delusional reality. Life is a rollercoaster. We have highs and lows. Everything is transitional and what we think is what really matters.
Going back to the healing topic, Dr Alter says that many of our symptoms are responses from our body healing. So such symptoms are good because they are the responses of our body to an illness. This is evidence of health.
He also claims that many medications are good for covering symptoms of a disease and regulating the physiological chemistry. However, the disease being controlled will continue manifesting problems unless we change the environment that created the disease in the first place.
He continues explaining that he does not like to label someone vegan if not eating animal products because vegan tells us what the person is not eating. But It is not telling what the person should not eat to stay healthy. Therefore, he says that is better called a whole foods plant-based diet - eating plants, such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans/legumes, etc. Dr Alter says that we are designed to eat only whole foods, that processed foods are not digested correctly and whole foods provide everything the human body needs in a synergetic balance.

He also says that many people do not know about carbohydrates and how important carbohydrates are for our weight loss. Many people have an inefficient metabolism because they don’t eat foods rich in nutrients and they eat processed foods (empty calorie foods). Another factor that may cause an inefficient metabolism is toxicity in our environment- food, water, air… One more factor that slows down metabolism is not eating enough.
Next Dr Alter recommends that we should be fasting for at least 13 hours. This should be a natural process. You should only eat when you are hungry and not snacking during the night. Your portions should be normal and calories from whole plant foods..
The last two topics we touch in this conversation are about cleansing and grains. Dr Alter thinks that we should be having a cleansing diet all year around. However, going to the process of a more intention cleanse 4 times a year is good as well. We all accumulate toxins inside our body even though we do our best to eat as clean as possible.
Grains are good for you when in their whole and organic state. They should not be refined and processed and we should source them from organic suppliers to avoid the chemicals often used in the conventional agricultural process. The more in their natural state they are, the better for you. Grains are good carbohydrates and should be eaten to stay healthy.

Eat lots of vegetables
Drink a lot of water
Be aware of your thoughts and don’t take your thoughts so seriously.
