Things You Should Know If Your Goal Is to Tone Your Body and Gain Muscle

Last week I met my cousin’s boyfriend. Charlotte, my cousin, told me that she wanted to join Custom Body Fitness along with his boyfriend, Augustin. She asked me to tell Agustin a little bit about what we do. So instead of bragging about our services, I decided to ask Agustin why he wanted to join. 



He told me that he wanted to stay busy, so he won’t get in trouble. I asked him if he was interested in any goal and he said that not really. He thought for a couple seconds and told me that gaining some muscle would be nice. Then he continued saying that his job is taking a lot of his time and he does not have a schedule. The plan was exercising whenever he had time and he was bored at home. 


So I continued asking about his goal and he emphasized that he wanted to gain muscle…

I replied that gaining muscle and toning the body is not something like, “I am going to exercise when I am bored.” To be able to tone your body and gain muscle you must commit, become disciplined and be constant with your program.


If you want to have a hobby, dancing zumba, doing aerobics, cycling, Peloton or any other class where you can move will do it. 


Gaining muscle is not something you can take lightly…

I have been exercising for 25 years, training clients for 15 years and I have read many books and articles about the topic. And what I can tell you is that it requires your commitment to be able to tone your body. You need to invest at least 3 years of your life to get to your goal and those 3 years you must have consistency, discipline, patience and follow a progressive regimen. 


Many people quit because they think that toning the body and gaining muscle is easy. Also many people decide to take steroids to make the process faster and easier. However, they are putting their lives and health in risk , something we don’t do in Custom Body Fitness.


This conversation I had with Agustin made me think about all the people who think gaining muscle is something they can do in their free time...

I am here to tell you that gaining muscle and toning your body must be taken seriously and design a plan that you must fit in your life every day, week and month for at least 3 years to get to your goals. Once you hit your goal, you also need a plan to keep the results you got. Otherwise, you will lose what you have worked so hard for. 


I also had a conversation with a body builder who is now one of our members who used to get in shape for his performance, but let his body go in the off season. He was telling me the same thing my teacher told me (who also was a bodybuilder). These bodybuilders to perform, they must follow a rigid diet, dehydrate their bodies with pills, tant and do other extreme things. However, once they are done, they go back to gaining fat.

Now our bodybuilder member tells me that he has learned to exercise and build his body as a lifestyle instead of doing all the extremes to perform... 


Now he is maintaining his body and has a nice physique all year around.


Tone your body and gain muscle step by step.


Not only is it hard to gain muscle and tone your body, it also requires the same discipline to keep your gains. So, if your idea is to gain muscle and tone your body, know that you need to invest at least 3 years, be constants, discipline, patience and follow a well designed, progressive weight lifting program to get there.
