Should I Do Intermittent Fasting, Keto, Low Carb, or Vegan to Lose Weight?
I hear this question every week at Custom Body Fitness:
“Sandro, should I try intermittent fasting? Keto? Low carb? Vegan? Which one will help me lose weight faster?”
And I get it. When you’re struggling to lose weight, it’s tempting to think that the right diet is the magic key. But before you jump into any trendy plan, let’s talk about what really matters — and what most people never hear.
The Real Beginning of Any Weight Loss Program
Here’s the truth nobody wants to admit: No diet works unless you change your lifestyle.
If you do intermittent fasting for 3 months, you’ll lose weight for 3 months… and then gain it all back when you stop. If you do keto for a while, you’ll lose weight for a while… and then gain it back when you return to “normal.” A temporary diet = temporary results. If you want to lose weight for life, whatever you choose must become your new normal. Not for 30 days. Not for summer. Not “until I lose 20 pounds.” For life.

Understanding What Diets Really Mean
Most people think that IF they go “keto,” “vegan,” “low carb,” or “intermittent fasting.” Then they will automatically lose weight. But that’s not how it works. You can follow any of these diets and still eat completely unhealthy.
Examples: Keto but eating processed meats and packaged “keto snacks.” Vegan but eating chips, soda, and fake meat. Low carb but drinking alcohol every weekend. Intermittent fasting but eating junk during your feeding window. A diet label does NOT make the food healthy. If you’re still eating:
Processed foods
GMOs
Added sugars
Fast food
Alcohol

…then it doesn’t matter which diet you follow — weight loss will be very difficult.
You Don’t Need a Diet to Lose Weight
Most people don’t realize this, but…
You can lose weight without following ANY named diet. All you need is to learn how to eat real, whole, unprocessed food. If you understand:
How processed food affects your metabolism
How medications, alcohol, birth control, and supplements influence weight
How to eat balanced whole foods
…then you don’t need keto, vegan, or intermittent fasting. You just need consistency. And you can still enjoy your favorite cultural dishes — Mexican, American, Indian, Asian, whatever you grew up with. You just make them with real ingredients instead of processed shortcuts.

This is exactly how we help people lose weight at Custom Body Fitness Glenwood Springs and throughout the Roaring Fork Valley — without forcing them into strict diets.
The Truth Most People Avoid
Diets like intermittent fasting, keto, low carb, or vegan will NOT help you if:
You can’t sustain them for life
You’re relying on willpower instead of lifestyle change
You expect the diet to do the work for you
The real challenge is defeating your old habits — not switching to a trendy diet. Every day, you’re fighting the older version of you. The one who wants sugar. The one who wants fast food. The one who wants comfort instead of change. When you win enough of those small battles, you lose weight. Simple. Not easy. But simple.
So Should You Do Intermittent Fasting, Keto, Low Carb, or Vegan?

Here’s my honest answer:
You CAN choose any of them — but only if you’re ready to live that way for life. If you’re not ready to make it permanent, then don’t start something you can’t sustain. Instead, focus on what actually works:
✔ Remove processed foods
✔ Stop drinking calories
✔ Eat whole, real food
✔ Be aware of your habits
✔ Exercise consistently
✔ Educate yourself about nutrition
