Four Tips to Transform Your Body and Make The Process Enjoyable, Fun and Achievable

It is important to set goals and have a plan with a set time to get to them. However, many times this can be counterproductive because you can’t focus on the results, making the process hard and long. It is like when you are waiting for the water to boil. If you stay there staring at it and waiting for the water to boil, it seems like it takes forever even though it will take the same time if you just walk away and let it happen.

I have seen many people focusing so much on the results that they get discouraged. Those people who take their time making their new habits of results part of their lives are those who get to their goals.

If your goal is to lose weight and tone your body permanently, focusing only on the long term goal won’t help you get there.

I am going to give you four tips that I applied to transform my body and make the process enjoyable, fun and achievable.

Make the new habit part of your life.

Don’t think about the results you are getting from your new behavior, running, weight lifting, eating healthier, hiking or whatever you are doing. Just do it and enjoy it. Know that these new behaviors are now part of your life and your body will transform. The reason why athletes are in shape, it’s because they practice athletes' behaviors. So your body will also become accustomed to the new behavior you are practicing and you will lose weight and tone your body.

Focus on your progress.

I remember when I started to train. I got motivated by a bodybuilder, who also trained me. I challenged him that I would be as strong and tone like him in three months. He laughed! Of course, even though I tried hard, my results were minimal.

I learned that it would take years for me to be toned and big like my friend, so I forgot about my body and I focused on the progress. He taught me the principle of overloading. For the muscle to get bigger and stronger, it needs to experience stress the muscle has never experienced before.

So every time I workout in the weight room, I would lift a set of weights, but I was focusing on the next level already. For example, if I was chest pressing 70 pounds, I was already looking at the 80 pounds. If I was squatting 50 pounds, I was focusing on the 70 pounds already. As soon as I felt I could lift the next level, I would do that and I would focus on the next level again.

I can tell you that doing that kept me focused and motivated that I did not notice the 3 years I needed to invest before I would experience the body I wanted to have.

Enjoy the benefits.

Of course, you want to lose weight and be toned for many reasons, don’t forget to enjoy the benefits you are getting from your hard work.

Since I have become stronger and fit, I have don’t so many things I never thought I would do, mud runs, hiking 12,000 feet tall mountains, marathons, buy the clothes I want to because it fits me great, help elderly people and ladies with their luggage in the airport and do some activities without a shirt when the occasion calls for it, among other things.

I feel unstoppable and that is the reason why I exercise. So don’t forget to enjoy the benefits that would motivate you to continue with your habits.

Make others part of your journey…

Since I started to exercise, I wanted other people to also get in shape. I invited and helped a few friends to also get in shape. Having a partner makes it fun and you will feel useful when you are helping others. It is fulfilling when you see other people’s bodies change just as it is fulfilling seeing your body change.

When you focus on these four habits and you forget about your long term goal, you won’t suffer by thinking when you are going to be in the best shape of your life. You only focus on these behaviors that in the long run will deliver the results you are looking for.

Remember to enjoy the process which is the most important part of the results you are getting.
