A couple of weeks ago I met Dr Torkil Faero. He has 25 years of experience being a general practitioner doctor. He is the author of The Pulse Cure. He specialized in helping people have a healthier life by avoiding burnouts, inflammation and stress.
Even though he has been practicing medicine for 25 years, his real journey started when his dad passed away from a cancer that could be avoided. But Torkil did not know better as a Doctor to be able to help his dad. He explained that in school doctors are thought to diagnose and medicate. So he was following the protocol and following his dad's steps.
Torkil was overweight and unhealthy due to his lifestyle. He ate processed foods, drank wine, slept minimum and stressed himself with work.
Once Torkil’s dad passed away, he knew there was something to do to avoid many diseases such as the cancer his dad had. He started researching on his own time and found out many things that can be done.
Then, Torkil applied all of the knowledge collected from his research and he started making changes in his life. He lost around 40 pounds, improved his life, got more energy and even recognized himself. Torkil was an athlete in university, but somewhere in his life lost those habits and started to gain weight. But now, he feels young again with the same strength or even more than what he used to have when younger.
Torkil found out that people can take control of their health instead of just putting the responsibility on the doctor.
They could avoid many diseases if people decide to take responsibility for their health before they get sick with cancers, diabetes and other diseases because once they are sick, they start controlling their diseases with medication but not curing the disease. This is only covering the symptoms of the real cause.
Torkil talks a lot about the importance of changing habits, stopping eating processed foods, stop drinking alcohol, sleeping enough, taking cold showers, practice strength training as well as cardio, and monitor our heart rate.
According to Torkil our heart rates tell us if we are stressed, low in energy and inflamed.
Therefore, it is important to monitor our heart rate to find out if we are stressed or low in energy due to our behaviors and do the right things to start taking control of our stress, energy, inflammation and our health over all.
I personally learned many things from Dr Torkil Faero. I learned that a smart watch can monitor my heart rate and can tell me how high or low of energy I am every morning. Plus, I learned that lifting weights not only makes you stronger and more attractive, but can also make you smarter by increasing connections in the brain.
